Online GLP-1 Programs in Colorado
Colorado has the lowest adult obesity rate in the country, but its Medicaid program still does not cover GLP-1s for weight loss. The state even rolled back coverage for its own employees in 2025, so most Coloradans reach semaglutide and tirzepatide through cash-pay or telehealth.

Does Colorado Medicaid cover GLP-1s?
Health First Colorado (Medicaid) does not cover GLP-1s for weight loss; Colorado is an expansion state but never elected the optional weight-loss benefit (RX Index, 2026). GLP-1s for type 2 diabetes are covered, as federal law requires. Colorado also tightened its state-employee plan in July 2025, ending new weight-loss GLP-1 prescriptions and raising copays, and a 2025 law will require large commercial plans to offer obesity-drug coverage starting in 2027, but none of that reaches Medicaid.
Online Access
Getting a GLP-1 online in Colorado
GLP-1s are not DEA-controlled substances, so Colorado allows them to be prescribed via telehealth. The prescriber must hold a Colorado license or register as an out-of-state telehealth provider under SB24-141 (Colorado DORA). Colorado bars telehealth prescribing of controlled substances, but GLP-1s are not controlled, so online programs can serve residents statewide.
Compounding
Compounded semaglutide & tirzepatide in Colorado
Routine compounding of semaglutide and tirzepatide ended after the FDA resolved the shortages in early 2025 (FDA, 2025). Colorado adds no special carve-out beyond the federal 503A/503B framework, so compounding is limited to documented, patient-specific clinical need.
Demand
Where GLP-1 demand is highest in Colorado
Colorado has the lowest adult obesity rate in the nation, around 25%, and one of the lowest diabetes rates near 8% (CDC BRFSS via America's Health Rankings, 2024). Even so, the Denver metro anchors real demand. With neither Medicaid nor the state-employee plan covering weight-loss GLP-1s, that demand runs largely through cash-pay and telehealth.
